CORVALLIS, OREGON–June 29, 1999–Sanda Communications has been selected as the advertising and marketing agency of record for Kalatel, a leading manufacturer of closed-circuit television (CCTV) security systems.

Sanda's first priority will be to research and develop corporate image and brand-awareness campaigns for Kalatel, Inc., which recently merged with another security systems manufacturer, Impac Technologies, which is based in Costa Mesa, Calif. The combined company's products will be marketed under the Kalatel name.

Kalatel, which is based in Corvallis, produces a complete line of CCTV security equipment, from discreet p/t/z dome cameras and camera housings to the software and equipment used to connect, control and monitor them. Kalatel systems are used for video surveillance by firms ranging from small retail stores to Fortune 500 corporations.

“We chose Sanda because they offered the best combination of marketing expertise and knowledge of technology,” said Darren Nicholson, national marketing manager for Kalatel. “They convinced us that they understand technology companies and know how to tell their stories in the most effective manner.”

Nicholson said that Sanda's approach to marketing and advertising, which stresses consumer and dealer research, was a good fit for the type of awareness-oriented campaign that Kalatel envisions. Another key factor was the agency's background in computer-controlled automation technology. Kalatel is developing products that use “smart software” to interpret video gathered by security cameras. Sanda President Jerry W. Saveriano writes and lectures extensively on such advanced automation technologies as computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and robotics.

“We have the right skill set for Kalatel and other companies who use automated technologies,” said Saveriano, who is also a member of the Software Association of Oregon's executive board and president of the Corvallis chapter. “We not only understand technology, we understand how it will affect the marketplace.”

In less than two years, Sanda Communications has developed a strong reputation for serving high-tech and software-industry clients in the Willamette Valley.
